Columbia, MD (Vocus/PRWEB) March 15, 2011
CareOne Services Inc., one of the nation’s largest providers of debt relief services, has joined the American Association of Credit Counselors as one of the organization’s founding members.
The new American Association of Credit Counselors (AACC) was formed in late 2010 in an effort to raise standards in the debt relief industry and advocate for improved consumer protections. The group, which has eight charter members, is spearheaded by consumer advocate Steve Rhode, founder of the website GetOutofDebt.org. Members include a wide range of providers of debt relief services.
“I am excited that CareOne has helped to create this new organization that is focused on broadening consumer protections and increasing education rather than on advancing the goals of the debt relief industry,” said Mike Croxson, president of CareOne.
Membership in the AACC is by invitation only and all members have agreed to a set of common standards including charging no upfront fees for debt settlement services, providing customers with good faith estimates for all fees and outlining the potential risks of enrolling in a debt relief program. The organization has adopted the motto “Putting Consumers First.”
“I look forward to being a part of this organization and working with a diverse range of debt relief providers, many of whom are my direct competitors, to find ways to educate consumers and improve the industry,” Croxson said. “Together we can implement some positive changes that will give people the tools they need to help pay down debt while protecting them from the numerous bad players who have given the industry as a whole a bad reputation.”
